Swarm Catch

A notice came through on nextdoor.com that a swarm was in someones front yard. I contacted the home owner and went over immediately. The swarm was hanging about 2 feet off the ground. The bees were clearly a wild strain being very black and smaller in color. The bees did not show any signs of aggressive behavior.

Hive Colapse

Checking on my only 2016 colony which was sourced from “Plan Bee”. This colony appears to have both absconded the hive and died off due to the recent cold weather. I will clean the hive out and seal up the frames for next years beekeeping.

Bee Package Install

Bee package install into Warre Hive. This install did not go well. This was my first experience with bees and I completely screwed it up. I ordered a Nuc hive because that was the only type of bees I could find on short notice. I had to cut up the foundation frames and install them into the hive box to fit the smaller Warre design. Terrible day for the bees.

Hive Assembly

Assembly of my very first bee hive. This hive is a Warre design with observation windows. Bee package will be sourced from “Plan Bee”
